WORKSHOPS

IMPROVISING HONESTLY
with ANDY PERKINS
Mondays June 3 - July 15 6pm - 9pm
$75

IMPROVISING HONESTLY will instill confidence, creativity, spontaneity, and strong ensemble work through short form games and scene work. There will be a strong emphasis on honesty within relationships and on emotional reactions within the scene work. This will not be a workshop about making jokes or being funny, but rather we will seek to find the humor within real human interaction.

INSTRUCTOR
Andy Perkins- While completing his MFA in acting at Purdue University, Andy thought that the undergraduate students would benefit from a semester long course in the art of improvisation. There was no precedent for this, so he had to create the course and lesson plan from the ground up. After getting it approved by the faculty, the first time was such a success they asked to have him teach it again the following year. During that time, Andy also taught a number of improvisation workshops at local and state-wide high school thespian festivals in Indiana. Originally from Kansas City, MO, Andy earned his BFA in acting and directing at Avila University. He has also been a member of Last Minute Improv and is currently a member of The Gentlemen’s Club improv troupe.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS
“Andy was able to see what I was capable of when I couldn't.  He created a safe and trusting environment to improv in. He taught with a balance of guiding me through new techniques but allowing me to discover things on my own. He made sure that I improved every day!”
-Kelly Wyckoff (Introduction to Improvisation)

“Having no theatre or acting background, I was made anew by Andy's ability to create a comfortable class atmosphere. He gave me the confidence to pursue improv after graduation at The Second City.”
-Andrew Wirtz (Introduction to Improvisation)

“Andy's teaching style helped me start off from not knowing any improv techniques at the beginning of the class, to feeling comfortable and confident in performing a full show at the end of the year. Throughout the semester, he helped us progress our skills forward through exercises and teaching games. I was always engaged because the class moved at a good pace and I was always learning. If I had the chance to take a class from Andy Perkins again, I would sign up right away.”
-Mike Ryan (Introduction to Improvisation)

“Andy is a very passionate instructor, constantly challenging both his students and himself to be successful.” -Adam Lott (Introduction to Improvisation)
